Description
Kowabunga is a great Dauphin Island Beach house with many amenities, including a small, private heated dipping pool, a Game Room, roof-top deck and great Gulf Beach location. No wonder it’s one of our most popular Dauphin Island beach rentals!
This pet-friendly Gulf-side elevated beach house sits just one house back from the Gulf, and so it has tremendous views! The rooftop crow’s nest offers a panoramic view of the island. This home also has a small Game Room, which is great for those times that the weather isn’t cooperating! The game room is also the 4th bedroom that has a sleeper sofa and a bunk bed.
This elevated, two-story home has a Master Suite on the first level with a private full bath. There is also a half-bath off the kitchen. The Great Room is large, open, and has a flat-screen TV over the fireplace. The Second Level has three bedrooms, two of which share a “Jack and Jill” half bathroom with shower. There is a third, full bathroom on this level, and a Game Room (great for night time, or rainy days). The rooftop has a “Crow’s Nest” which provides panoramic views of the Island.
This house may be Pet-friendly, with prior written permission.
As with all of our Dauphin Island Beach Rentals, all linens and towels are provided, WIFI, along with a fully-outfitted kitchen. There will be a starter pack of toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags; please plan on bringing more for day 2 ;). A great beach vacation is waiting on you! Pool is heated October 15 thru April.
Please note the following:
1. Minimum Age for the Primary Renter is 25, and Primary Renter must be present for the entire stay.
2. Maximum Occupancy numbers include Children 3 and over and cannot be exceeded at any time.
3. All of our Homes are Non-Smoking.
4. A signed Rental Agreement is Required, which contains additional Rules and Guidance.
5. This property does not allow weddings or parties.
6. Check-in time is 3 pm, and check-out time is 10 am.
7. Start dishes and linens before departure.
8. Take the trash can to the street on Tuesday night and Friday night.
9. This home is pet-friendly, dogs only, 2-Pet Maximum Limit – $100 pet fee per pet plus tax applies.
Parking Instructions
The property has a driveway that accommodates 2 cars. Free overflow parking at Green Park next to Ship N Shore.

Stay was amazing great views beautiful place for a family vacation.Ice maker didn’t work and pool heater didn’t work and a few broken tiles in the house need fixed by the stairs but very lovely place to stay highly recommended

This house is in a nice location but the condition of this home is not represented well at all in the pictures. We read the prior poor reviews of this property before booking and thought it wouldn’t be that bad… we were wrong. We rented this house because it has a heated pool and we have small kids. Needless to say the pool filter doesn’t work they just fill it from a garden hose and let it sit. No chlorine or anything. We had to wash all the bedding before using it. The beds were just made not changed out from the previous guests. There are so many broken tiles and missing grout that we worried about kids cutting their feet. Two of the three doors on the first floor don’t work and have to remain dead bolted so they don’t blow open in the wind. The staircase from the back of the deck down to the beach is actually missing. The landing for the steps is there but the steps are gone. All of the windows are screwed closed which seems extremely dangerous. If there was a fire the upstairs bedrooms would be impossible to get out of without breaking the glass out of the window frame. We talked with Adam from Dauphin Island Beach Rentals. He is very nice and gave us a $350 refund for the pool not working. He has many other beach properties to choose from. We recommend staying at one of his other properties. The pictures of this home are many years old and do not represent the condition of this property

The location of this home on Dauphin Island is very good. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the beach. The view from the crow’s nest is amazing. However, the home is definitely in need of attention and updates. It is overpriced for the condition it is in.

Do you drive on the sand to get to the house? Or do you have to park somewhere and walk?

You can park in front of the house. The driveway is sandy, but there is a base of crushed concrete. Two vehicles max.

The water would be the same as you have experienced on West End Beach. The size of the waves is dependent on the weather. It can be relatively flat or very large if there is a storm. The Bay Side is much calmer if you are looking for that type of experience.

The home is serviced with radio-based internet (as is most properties on the island at this point). Internet speeds will vary, typically 10 to 30 MBS. Cell phone reception is typically one to two bars on the island.

Great value
The location is perfect, just steps away from the gulf. The house is a great size for large groups. Maintenance responded quickly for a broken toilet seat. Pool was tested and treated twice during our week long stay. Parking was difficult as there was so much sand built up, we couldn’t determine where the parking pad for the house was located, ended up parking on the street. Not enough parking for all the houses on the court and overflow parking is not conveniently located unless someone can drive you back and forth to your car. A few floor tiles on the 1st floor were broken and the hinges to one of the exterior doors was so rusted we just avoided using that door. More cushioned outdoor seating on the deck would be nice. No issues with AC, plumbing, or appliances. Limited utensils and dishes for large groups. If you plan to use the sleeper sofa, it was terrible, bring a blow up mattress instead. Overall it is a great value and the beachfront location can’t be beat. We will be staying there again.

Great value and location
great location and value. we will probably rent again!!! lots of room. plenty of bathrooms. Quick response on maintenance. wifi worked great. Needs a good deep cleaning. oven glass top was broken. Air conditioner filter needed to be replaced really badly, air got warm on Friday night. Sink in upstairs bathroom was clogged. grill had been misused by a previous guest. It was new, but someone had cooked on it. It smoked up the whole downstairs. Unable to use all week.. Its a lot of stairs for people with mobility issues, but a really great home overall…
