If you've been watching our blog to see what's been happening on Dauphin Island, then you probably already know that the early forecasts were wrong, and that Dauphin Island has been spared from the kind of oil that came ashore in other areas, both east and west of us.
We have had great beach weather all summer, and other than some scattered tarballs, our beautiful beaches have been free of oil altogether!
Little by little, people are starting to gather on the beaches and enjoy the beauty of our Island. Here's a picture of some folks enjoying themselves today near the Public Beach.
Yes, that line in the water is a section of boom, which is pretty rare to see on the Gulf side of the Island. There wasn't much boom placed on the Gulf side, since the waves are pretty tough on the floating boom. The good news is that so far, the booms haven't been needed.
